What is a snack?

A snack is something small to eat when you are hungry in between meals. It acts to ‘tie you over’ until your next meal and can help to avoid overeating due to extreme hunger. Ideally it should provide between 600-800kJ (less is okay too!) as well as sort some of goodness for your body in terms of vitamins, minerals or fibre.

Here are 5 top healthy snacks that also provide your body with something useful.

  • A pottle (125-150g) of yoghurt – provides calcium for strong bones
  • Handful of unsalted nuts/seeds – provides healthy unsaturated fats for glowing skin
  • Slice of wholegrain toast + peanut butter – provides fibre for healthy bowels & protein to keep you feeling fuller for longer
  • Apple – a good source of fibre & anti-oxidants to help protect the body from disease
