Nutrition Information:
Beta-carotene
- Beta-carotene is a plant precursor which is converted in the body to vitamin A. It acts as an antioxidant and an immune system booster.
Thiamine
- Vitamin B1 is a water-soluble vitamin needed to process carbohydrates, fat, and protein. Every cell of the body requires vitamin B1 to produce energy. The nervous system requires vitamin B1 in order to function normally.
Riboflavin
- Vitamin B2 is a water-soluble vitamin needed to process proteins and fats, activate vitamin B6 and folic acid, and help convert carbohydrates into energy. Vitamin B2 can also act as an antioxidant.
Nicotinamide
- The body uses water-soluble vitamin B3 to produce energy from carbohydrates. Nicotinamide is also required for the formation of fat from carbohydrates.
Pantothenic Acid
- Pantothenic acid, also called vitamin B5, is a water-soluble vitamin involved in energy production and is essential in producing, transporting, and releasing energy from fats. It is also required to make essential brain chemicals, synthesise vitamin D from cholesterol, and produce steroid hormones. Pantothenic acid activates the adrenal glands, necessary for energy, good mental functioning, and good lung function.
Pyridoxine
- Vitamin B6 is the main vitamin required for processing amino acids—the building blocks of all proteins and some hormones, especially those necessary for healthy brain function. It also assists in balancing blood glucose levels.
Cyanocobalamin
- Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin needed for normal nerve cell activity, cell growth, energy, and production of mood balancing chemicals. It is essential for vegetarians. Vitamin B12 deficiency causes fatigue and poor mental function.
Ascorbic Acid
- Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that has a number of essential biological functions. It acts as an antioxidant, protecting cells from damage. The antioxidant properties of vitamin C are thought to protect children from the effects of second-hand or passive smoking. Vitamin C is needed to make collagen, the "glue" that strengthens many parts of the body, such as muscles and blood vessels. Vitamin C also plays important roles in wound and muscle healing and acts as a natural antihistamine. This vitamin also aids in the formation of liver bile, and helps to fight viruses and to detoxify toxic substances. Vitamin C also assists healthy vision, protects the arteries from deterioration in diabetes, and reduces boil formation.
Cholecalciferol
- Fat-soluble vitamin D’s most important role is in maintaining blood levels of calcium, which it accomplishes by increasing the absorption of calcium from food and reducing urinary calcium losses. Both effects keep calcium in the body and therefore spare the calcium that is stored in bones. Vitamin D is necessary for healthy bones and teeth and also plays a role in immunity and blood cell formation. Researchers have hypothesised that vitamin D may also be protective against multiple sclerosis, juvenile arthritis, and juvenile diabetes.
Alpha Tocopheryl
- Vitamin E is an important antioxidant that protects cell membranes and other fats in the body. Vitamin E may be helpful in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Vitamin E has beneficial effects on inflammation, blood cell regulation, connective tissue growth, and cell division.
Folic Acid
- Folic acid is a B vitamin needed for cell replication and growth. Folic acid helps form building blocks of DNA, the body’s genetic information, and building blocks of RNA, needed for protein synthesis in all cells. Therefore, rapidly growing tissues and rapidly regenerating cells, like red blood cells and immune cells, have a high need for folic acid. Folic acid deficiency results in a form of anaemia.
Biotin
- Biotin, a water-soluble B vitamin, acts as a coenzyme in the metabolism of protein, fats, and carbohydrates. It is essential for healthy skin.
Citrus Bioflavonoids
- Flavonoids are a type of water-soluble plant pigment. Flavonoids support health by strengthening capillaries and other connective tissues, and function as anti-inflammatory, antihistaminic, and antiviral agents. They may be of assistance for those with diabetes, and protect the vision, immune system, and skin.
Calcium
- Calcium is the most abundant, essential mineral in the human body. Calcium is needed to form bones and teeth and is also required for blood clotting, nerve function, and muscle contraction. Calcium has also been associated with assisting the immune system and improving weight levels. Calcium is essential for healing when bones are fractured or where there are dental caries.
Iodine
- Iodine is a trace mineral needed to make thyroid hormones, which are necessary for maintaining normal metabolism in all cells of the body.
Potassium
- Potassium is an essential mineral needed to regulate water balance, levels of acidity, and nerve and muscle function. Potassium is also required for carbohydrate and protein metabolism.
Chromium
- Chromium is an essential trace mineral that helps the body maintain normal blood sugar levels. Chromium supplementation may assist with diabetes and weight management.
Magnesium
- Magnesium is an essential mineral to the human body. It is needed for bone, protein, and fatty acid formation, for making new cells, activating B vitamins, relaxing muscles, clotting blood, and forming adenosine triphosphate (ATP - the energy the body runs on). The secretion and action of insulin also requires magnesium to assist with blood sugar level balance. Magnesium may also assist with vision problems, hyperactivity, fatigue, diabetes, and bed-wetting.
Manganese
- Manganese is an essential trace mineral needed for healthy skin, bone, and cartilage formation, as well as glucose tolerance. It also helps to activate antioxidant enzymes.
Zinc
- Zinc is an essential mineral that is a component of more than 300 enzymes needed to repair wounds, maintain growth in children, synthesise protein, help cells reproduce, preserve vision, boost immunity, and protect against free radicals. Zinc assists in reducing the duration of colds due to its anti-viral action in the throat. It is also helpful for underweight children, diarrhoea, lung infections, and skin problems.
Iron
- Iron is an essential mineral. It is part of haemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of the blood. Iron deficient children easily tire both physically and mentally because their bodies and brains are starved for oxygen. Iron is also part of myoglobin, a substance which helps muscle cells store oxygen. Without enough iron, adenosine triphosphate (ATP - the fuel the body runs on) cannot be properly synthesised. As a result, some iron-deficient children become fatigued even when their haemoglobin levels are normal (i.e., when they are not anaemic). Low iron levels can also cause low immunity.
