To ensure safety and avoid overdose and toxicity of vitamins
and minerals sold over the counter by grocery, health food,
pharmacy and natural health practitioners, the N.Z. Health
Department has set strict daily limitations of those vitamins
and minerals which could cause toxicity.
Supplement manufacturers must adhere to these safety limits
when making dosage recommendations on a product. These safety
limits are as follows:

Vitamin B3 | 100mg (in all forms nicotinic acid, nicotinamide) | |
Vitamin B12 | 50mcg | |
Vitamin D | 1,000 iu (25 mcg) | |
Folic Acid | 300mcg | |
Copper | 5mg (elemental) | |
Iron | 24mg (elemental) | |
Selenium | 150mcg (elemental) | |
Zinc | 15mg (elemental) |
