What to do if there is a child with an allergy

Speak to the parent for advice. Depending on the severity of the allergy, your kitchen may need to be cleaned of any residues before your cooking begins, and all food at the party may need to be free of the allergen. Always read the back of the packet of any food ingredients you are using, checking for the allergen or any traces of the allergen.

Here are some substitutes:

  • Gluten Free
Gluten Free Baking Mix for any baking, Gluten Free Bread for sandwiches and Gluten Free Baking Mix for making pita pizza based, Rice Flour and Cornmeal flour for pancakes or coating chicken bites.
  • Dairy Free
Do not add cheese to pizzas, substitute milk in recipes for almond, soy or rice milk, use a vegetable oil instead of a spread, choose dairy free healthy baking recipes for dessert options and avoid using yoghurt.
  • Egg Free
Look for egg free recipes and use a small amount of oil rather than egg to help coat any meat.
  • Nut Free
Avoid all nuts and nut products such as LSA or peanut butter and check for traces on products.  If there are no traces listed, you can always phone the company to check.
  • Soy Free
Check packets for traces of soy, do not use soy based sauces
